Shoe deliveries are a common form of community support practiced by GSFF locations throughout the country, including City of Industry. With the assistance of Shoes that Fit, a national organization based out of Claremont, California that helps to provide new shoes for children in need, CID associates are able to donate to those in the community who need a little financial relief.
Every few months, associates suggest a local school to receive the donation and Shoes That Fit kicks off the process of making sure that the school is eligible to participate in the program. The organization works with the school to identify children in need of new shoes and acquire their sizes. Linda Ray, GSFF Treasurer for the CID Committee and CID Senior Accounting Clerk, then makes a trip to Famous Footwear (which provides a special discount) and purchases shoes for the children, many of whom spend months in over worn shoes. Two associates participated in the last event in January, with 60 shoes donated.
“When the students enter the cafeteria and see the bright colorful shoes with their names on them, their faces just light up,” said Griselda Hernandez, Customer Service Representative at CID. “That moment makes it even more real and special.”
Since Linda Ray first reached out to Shoes that Fit for a partnership 10 years ago, almost 6,100 shoes have been donated. The goal for the future is to donate at least 800 pairs of shoes every year. The next shoe delivery through Shoes that Fit will take place in the beginning of the new school year, in September.
