In facilities throughout the nation, associates band together to prepare, order, and serve meals to those staying at Ronald McDonald Houses and other charitable facilities. They take time out of their personal lives to not only provide food, but a friendly smile to those going through a rough time.
Sumner: Tree House at Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital
On June 4, Jerry Smith and Laura Kniss paid a visit to the Tree House at Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital and served those staying there with a delicious “Breakfast for Dinner.” Guests enjoyed biscuits smothered in sausage gravy, hotcakes with warm syrup and GoGurts. On June 12, Kim Paulsen and Laura Kniss made a visit to the Seattle RMH, bringing pizza, GoGurts, chocolate chip cookies and drinks for 150 guests staying at the house. City of Industry, Distribution Center: Loma Linda Ronald McDonald House
On April 27, four associates of CID volunteered to deliver both food and paper goods to the Ronald McDonald House of Loma Linda. Associates delighted guests with an array of options from Chipotle: steak, flour tortillas, sour cream and avocados. The associates also had extra goodies from Smart & Final including chips, rice, salad, corn, salsa, cheese and pastries for dessert! After enjoying steak burritos with the 15 families in attendance, associates like Griselda Hernandez stayed to ensure that they left the kitchen spotless. The extra thought and effort was appreciated by all!
Spokane: Spokane Ronald McDonald House
On January 26, associates including Will Hill, Tony Proctor and Jeff McMillan, were excited to serve up dinner for their local RMH. They prepared a meal fit for a king: tri-tip dinner with baked potatoes and salad, followed by cheesecake and red velvet cake for dessert. They even marinated the meat a full day in advance! Seven families were on site that day to enjoy the tasty spread. On April 14, another trip to the Spokane RMH was made with associates like Tony Proctor, Tyler Gross, Leah Wilkins and Bryan Erickson. Due to the positive reception for their last meal, volunteers re-created the same experience, again enjoyed by the seven families staying at the house.
Garner: Durham Ronald McDonald House
On June 10, Garner associates Gregg Tarlton, Courtney Tillman, Donnie Little and Floydricka Tanoh volunteered to serve dinner at RMH of Durham, North Carolina. The menu consisted of fried chicken, pork barbeque, hushpuppies, coleslaw, potato salad and banana pudding for dessert. All of the delicious food was provided by Smithfield Chicken and BBQ. There were a whopping 50 plus families served from all parts of the United States – even Alaska! Volunteers mingled with families and even heard a remarkable story of a child named “Chance,” born prematurely and not expected to survive. Chance was three months old at the time, exceeding doctor’s expectations and giving the family hope.
