About
Who We Are
The GSF Foundation is a nonprofit organization, dedicated to improving the lives of children and families in need in the areas where GSF associates live and work. Established in 2002, the Foundation is a natural extension of Golden State Foods’ values-based business. Funded and run by GSF associate volunteers and supported by its business partners, community partners and customers, the Foundation operates under the direction of an executive board, which includes national representation from local GSF volunteers. Uniting their hearts and hands for good, more than 70% of GSF associates give to the Foundation through personal involvement and contributions in 32 local committees across the United States.

What We Do
The GSF Foundation provides strategic financial and volunteer assistance to hundreds of nonprofit organizations that need support in bringing hope and healing to children and families in need. This includes those without homes or life’s basic necessities, who have been abused or neglected, who are mentally or physically challenged, who have terminal illnesses and other at-risk individuals. The Foundation provides this support through its various programs, educational tools, healthy lifestyle opportunities and financial donations. The GSF Foundation is funded through annual campaigns, fundraisers and individual contributions. As a volunteer-run organization, the Foundation gives 100% of associate financial contributions to directly help those in need.

“We work on everything about improving the quality of lives of children and families in need. It’s just incredible the passion, and the belief, and the true willingness for our associates to step up, to participate, and to be involved."
Mark Wetterau, former Chairman and Chief Executive Officer
Our Mission
The GSF Foundation’s mission is to improve the quality of life of children and families in need in the areas where GSF associates live and work through personal involvement and contributions.
Who We Serve
The GSF Foundation supports hundreds of children’s charities and elementary schools across the U.S. and beyond. Building upon the existing charitable involvement of GSF associates, the Foundation partners with local charities on volunteerism, grants and fundraising efforts that benefit a variety of associate-nominated organizations serving children and families in need.
Grant Making
Since its inception in 2002, the GSF Foundation has granted funds to more than 850 non-profit 501(c)3 organizations that align with our mission of improving the lives of children and families in need in the places where GSF associates live and work. Non-profits seeking grants must be nominated by a current GSF associate who can speak to the organization and the proposed project. As such, grant application documents are not available on the GSF Foundation website and can only be acquired through the nominating GSF associate.
Without a GSF associate’s nomination and signature, submitted grant applications and requests will not be reviewed.
Grant applications nominated by GSF associates and submitted for the local committees’ consideration will be reviewed quarterly during national Executive and Board meetings at GSF Foundation’s headquarters.
