A child’s performance in school can be affected by their attendance. If students are not present in the classroom consistently, they will not be able to achieve their full academic potential. The Pedal to Perfection program was created to help schools raise attendance rates by rewarding at-risk kids for exceptional attendance. By demonstrating perfect or nearly perfect attendance for the school year, kids in the Pedal to Perfection program earn a brand new bike, complete with a helmet and lock.
QCD Los Angeles partnered with Sunkist Elementary, a local elementary school in La Puente, California, to support the school’s “Perfect Attendance Initiative.” The students were told at the start of the 2018 school year that they would receive a brand-new bicycle if they didn’t miss any school days. When QCD Los Angeles volunteers checked in with the school in May, they were pleased to learn about 38 students’ achievement in attendance.
“When you make school attendance a priority, you help your child get better grades, develop healthy life habits, avoid dangerous behavior and have a better chance of graduating from high school,” said Angela Romero, Corporate Recruiter-QCD West. “Students who attend school regularly also feel more connected to their community, develop important social skills and friendships, and are significantly more likely to graduate from high school, setting them up for a strong future. QCD was so happy to play apart in this initiative!”
The bikes were presented by QCD volunteers on the first day of the 2019 school year as a way to motivate all the kids to strive for perfect attendance during the upcoming year.
The Pedal to Perfection program is a motivating force in helping at-risk kids achieve their potential, proving academic success is attainable. Thank you to all the QCD Los Angeles volunteers who built and distributed the bikes!
